This vinyl LP pressing of Here in the Pitch by Jessica Pratt, her fourth album, marks a bold departure from her previous work, showcasing some of her most adventurous music to date. Envisioning expansive, panoramic sounds inspired by the ocean and California, Pratt layers timpani, glockenspiel, baritone saxophone, and flute across nine tracks, creating a triumphant mood even when her lyrics touch on darker themes. Five years after her breakthrough album Quiet Signs, Pratt returns with new ambition, working with trusted collaborators like Al Carlson and Matt McDermott, along with contributions from Spencer Zahn, Mauro Refosco, Ryley Walker, and others. Influenced by the darker side of the Californian dream and the end of the hippy era, Pratt's imagistic lyrics and evolved vocal performance make this album a captivating exploration of new musical terrain.
